PREFACE
Hello everyone, my name is Hannah Shin. I created and lead the Elderly Embrace Care Network with my brother, and this is my story: why I care. I have always loved serving our elderly, and this love has continued to strengthened as times goes on.
MY YOUNGER DAYS
Ever since I was young, I have been close with my grandparents. I remember volunteering at several different nursing homes in various points of my life, and it is through these experiences that I first came to realize that there are many seniors who battle with loneliness and social isolation. The nursing home residents often looked really lonely, and this broke my heart, especially as I was a young child inexperienced in the painful sadness they seemed to hold. However, I was thrilled whenever I saw that seniors' faces would light up as they saw fellow youth and me come to visit. As I performed flute for nursing home residents or helped them play bingo or served them food and drinks, seniors would brighten up, and this really inspired me to do more to serve them.
LEARNING MORE
As I grew older, I researched more into the issues that seniors face, from dementia to ageism to issues in the logistics of nursing home facilities, and more. Becoming more aware of various issues the aging population faces, I grew alarmed that the rest of society was largely unaware and inactive regarding the barriers seniors come against. I wanted to create an intergenerational community where youth connect with and serve our elderly.
MY GRANDMA
I have been living with my grandma for several years now, and my relationship with her has grown closer than ever. I love talking with her and listening to the stories she shares, and through my interactions with her, I am so inspired and motivated. I learn so much from her everyday, and we enjoy each other's presence very much. She never fails to give me hope and strength and encourages me to become the best person I can be. I can not imagine a world where I did not have such a close relationship with my grandma, and my love for her further led me to serve the elderly.
DYNAMIC DUO
My brother and I have always been really close, and as we both love our grandparents very much, have been emotionally moved by volunteering at nursing homes, and dream of creating a better world for the elderly, we joined forces to create an organization that would create an intergenerational community and serve our elderly. We started working really hard in planning ways we could serve the aging population and build intergenerational bridges. We felt that this is a cause that is so near and dear to our heart and relevant worldwide, and is far too often overlooked but extremely important.
ELDERLY EMBRACE CARE NETWORK
Elderly Embrace Care Network is for sure my favorite thing I have ever done, and every day I am constantly trying to think of new ways to grow it to better serve seniors. I care so deeply about my grandparents, seniors I have interacted with, and the rest of the aging population. I hope that Elderly Embrace Care Network can serve our elderly, educate youth on the issues seniors face, and build an intergenerational community through our several initiatives.
AN ADDITIONAL COMMENT ABOUT OUR BLOG
Thank you so much for reading this article and for your continued support in our blog. If you are a senior, I hope you check out some of our other articles as well and find them helpful. We have device descriptions detailing popular products and a segment for better understanding youth, and we are currently working on expanding a joke book of punny stories so you can laugh while reading them. If you are not a senior, we still really appreciate you reading our articles, and we hope you will share them with an elder in your life. Either way, thank you everyone, and stay tuned for more articles to come!
