Device Description: Hearing Aids

PREFACE

Hearing aids are vastly important technological innovations that have become essential to numerous seniors worldwide. There are countless brands and models for these devices, and in this article, I will be going over five models developed by major brands in this field, talking about its benefits, the price, and disadvantages, if there are any eminent ones. You can click on the name of the model to open a link to the webpage detailing more information. For clarification, these models are listed in alphabetical order, not necessarily ranked.

DISCLAIMER

The aim in writing this is to provide information and compare different models that are relatively competitive and well-known on the market today, but this article is not necessarily providing professional recommendations on which hearing aid would be the right fit for you. We have not used these products, but we did a lot of research into comparing them in terms of unique features, cost, and possible disadvantages, aiming to produce unbiased information for you to learn more about these major models.

The Eargo Neo HiFi is designed in a unique shape and comprised of flexible material that allows it to essentially hide within a user's ear. Unlike many other models on the market, the Eargo Neo HiFi almost completely hides itself within one's ear, as seen on the demonstration on their webpage. Additional features of this model are that the hearing aids are accompanied by a charger case and it refines noise input to reduce background noise. The Eargo Neo HiFi currently has a sale price of $2,650, taking into account an introductory offer reducing $300 off of the original cost of $2,950. This model has overwhelmingly positive reviews, and its sleek countenance is an important factor for many, but it is also important to consider other competitive models on the market.

Another model is the Hanaston AQ SHD 9, which has had very positive reviews so far. With a guarantee of 24 hours of life in the battery (with the ability to be recharged easily & readily as well) and AutoSound SHD technology of advanced spatial acoustics, this model is a high contestant for skilled sound quality detection. The Hearing Choices platform, which markets itself as "Australia's most trusted hearing aid expert", as stated on the website, lists the Hanaston AQ SHD 9 as for sale from $4,750. Thus, this model is noticeably pricier than other available hearing aids, but its status of "Excellent" from 465 reviews on Trustpilot (as this article is being written) show that it leaves users largely satisfied.

The MDHearingAid Air is "America's best selling value hearing aid" and as "500,000+ Americans agree 'the best hearing aid value in America'", according to their company page. This is largely due to its affordability, with a current price of $399.92 for the pair bundle (with a buy one get one free offer as I am writing this article in summer of 2020). The low cost mostly does not compromise quality, however, and the MDHearingAid Air has four settings to "suit your environment", including "quiet, social, and noisy", as detailed in their product information. The reviews for this model are extremely positive, with over 1,700 reviews averaging a new five-star status.

Next up is the ReSound LiNX Quattro, which is also highly spoken about. Two of its most prominent features is its long-lasting battery (and ease in recharging it) as well as the sound quality itself, which is obviously a very important aspect to consider. According to the ReSound company, it is committed to "clarity in finer details" and "offers a brilliant sound experience with a fuller range of sounds", which is part of what makes this model particularly appealing, setting it apart from many others on the market. In terms of cost, the ReSound LiNX Quattro falls relatively in a similar range to the Eargo Neo HiFi, but as it is more customizable with different varieties (customization available and options of Behind-the-Ear of Receiver-in-Ear), the price can vary. There is an online hearing test available on the website, and ReSound seeks to help connect users with a local hearing professional to determine specific needs.

Another competitive model is the Signia Nx. Signia prides itself in the HD spatial algorithms that are incorporated in this model, and the spatial awareness accounted for by this feature allows for noticeable improvements in sound quality. On their website, the Signia company states that it "is the only system that uses acoustic, motion, and voice detection to automatically orchestrate all hearing aid features to replicate the wearer’s natural hearing behavior." Another notable feature, among others, is that the Signia Nx is accompanied by the myControl app, which works for iOS and Android users. The customer brochure shows variations of the Nx product, but there is no one price listed. Sold on HearStore, prices range from $1,299 to $1,799, which makes it more affordable than several other models- in particular, the Eargo Neo HiFi.
